Saint-Georges, June 27, 2022 – As of today, Matiss employees will be paid 40 hours for a 36-hour work week. This initiative, which is part of a series of actions around a global compensation project undertaken in 2020, enhances its employee recruitment and retention activities.

Since 2019, factors such as labor shortages and competition in recruitment efforts have contributed to making it increasingly difficult to attract and retain workers. This new reality for employers therefore requires proactive strategies and policies that will fill positions. These initiatives will add to the appeal of a company among job seekers while offering winning conditions to its existing employees. According to Marc-Antoine Chassé, human resources manager at Matiss, “The lack of manpower is a phenomenon that affects the majority of companies. We wanted to put a program in place that was attractive to new employees but also to our current employees.”

Remuneration adapted to the new reality

In this highly competitive context, an increasingly common practice is to call on specialized firms to review the overall compensation policy within a company. “Today more than ever, organizations need to think outside the box! They need to take a step back from their usual compensation practices, in order to attract qualified talent and generate a mobilization movement that will make them want to stay. This is precisely what the Matiss management team understood when revising their compensation package offer. That is exactly what their employees were looking for: direct compensation that is certainly competitive, but also benefits tailored to their needs, development opportunities that will meet their professional aspirations and a healthy and stimulating work environment to which they can contribute.” states Camille Durocher-Bundock, Director of Human Resources and Organizational Development at Solertia + BGY.

Consultation with employees

In order to define its new global compensation policy, Matiss also consulted its employees. “Our employees are our priority. Their needs are changing and it was essential for Matiss to ensure that they were offered the most beneficial and up-to-date conditions.” indicates Jacques Martel, president, and founder of Matiss.

In addition to the 36-hour work weeks which will be paid for 40, Matiss has also reviewed its vacation policy and its group insurance plan, as well as the employer contribution to the RRSP, among others. “The well-being of our employees comes first.” adds Mr. Martel.

A larger factory to accommodate more employees

Having recently announced the expansion of its manufacturing plant, Matiss is supporting its efforts to recruit employees for the new projects that will be hosted in these more spacious facilities. Moreover, this expanded area will make it possible to accommodate more than thirty new employees over 3 years in different specialties: machinists, labourers, mechanic-assemblers, welders, buyers, etc.
